MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team defeated Auburn, 4-3, on the final day of competition at the Blue Gray Classic on Sunday.
For the sixth-straight time, OSU earned the doubles point with dominating performances from the tandems of Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana and C.C. Sardinha and Isabela Miro at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively. The match at No. 2 was not finished.
With the doubles advantage, the Cowgirls (6-2) fought their way through singles, winning half of the matches.
Sardinha, Meghan Blevins and Miro each took home two wins from the weekend after defeating their Auburn opponents each in straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 6.
Rose forced her match against Jen Pfiefler into a third set at No. 2 but was unable to hold on, giving Auburn the point. Auburn got the point at No. 4 due to injury.
“I’m really proud of the girls this weekend,” coach Chris Young said. “It was good winning two out of three matches, and we look forward to starting Big 12 play next week.”
The Cowgirls open conference play on Saturday against Oklahoma in Norman at noon.
