Feb. 4, 2012

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team fell to the No. 32 Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in Fayetteville, 4-3.

“I am proud of our girls for the way they competed,” coach Chris Young said. “Arkansas is a very experienced team that has had a lot of success in tight matches, and it showed today.”

OSU’s No. 32-ranked doubles team of Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana snatched the doubles point with the help of Isabela Miro and C.C. Sardinha winning their matches, 8-4 and 8-6. Freshmen Meghan Blevins and Mary Jeremiah kept their match close but lost to Arkansas’s Kate Lukomskaya and Catherine Parenteau, 9-7, at No. 2.

For the fourth time this season, the Cowgirls started singles play with a 1-0 lead.

Arkansas answered back winning 3 singles matches in a row to give them a 3-1 advantage.  Rose and Miro each picked up a win on the Nos. 2 and 6 courts. Rose defeated Stephanie Roy, 6-4, 6-4, and Miro overcame Laurie Gingras, 6-4, 6-2.

Blevins’ loss to Lukomskaya on the No. 3 court sealed the win for the Razorbacks.

“As a young team, we will grow from this experience and be better as the season goes on,” Young said.

The Cowgirls return to action in Stillwater on Feb. 19 at noon to take on Iowa.
