WACO, Texas - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team split a doubleheader with the Baylor Bears here Sunday afternoon, winning the first game 4-1 before falling, 2-1, in the second game at the Baylor Softball Complex.
In the first game, OSU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. After a walk by Michelle Ryan, juniors Jaime Foutch and Michelle Singer hit back-to-back singles before Shannon Sullivan hit an RBI double. OSU added another run in the fifth when Singer drove in third baseman Kristi Bolle with two runners on.
Baylor put its lone run on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Naomi Fitzgerald doubled into right centerfield and advanced to third when centerfielder Michelle Ryan bobbled the ball. She later scored on a base hit by Lyn Hill.
OSU scored its final run in the seventh when Bolle scored on a sacrifice fly by Foutch. Bolle, Foutch and Singer each had two hits in the game, while Sullivan went 3-for-4 with a double.
Leanne Tyler pitched the complete game for the Cowgirls, allowing just four hits while walking two and just one unearned run.
In the second game, Carrie Arn handcuffed the Cowgirls, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out seven. OSU's Jenn Markert struck out eight but allowed two run, one earned, on six hits.
Oklahoma State (28-9 overall, 3-2 Big 12) will return to action on Wednesday, April 5, as the Cowgirls host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in non-conference action at Cowgirl Field in Stillwater.
