STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team opened Big 12 action with a pair of wins over Kansas on Sunday. In a battle of wills, the Cowgirls outlasted the Jayhawks 2-1 in an 11-inning marathon in the first game and posted a 5-2 win in the second.

Kansas was first to strike in the opening contest, posting one run in the fourth but Stephanie Nicholson evened the score in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, her fourth of the year.

Neither team was able to score again until the 11th when Lauren Bay collected the game-winning hit with one out.

Ashleigh Tweed started the inning on second according to the international tie-breaker rule. Ryan Realmuto then singled and produced a double steal with Tweed. Bay promptly knocked a shot to the center field wall to score Tweed and end the extra-inning battle.

Bay brought heroics to the mound as well as the plate, striking out an astounding 23 batters and throwing a one-hitter. The performance set a new strikeout record at Oklahoma State as the lefty broke the previous record of 19 that she shared with Melanie Roche.

Both teams provided more offense in the second game, combining for 17 hits compared to eight in the first.

Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second on a pair of doubles from Stephanie Hodges and Crystal Lee.

The Jayhawks then scored one in the third and fourth to jump on top 2-1, but it would not last long as OSU regained the lead for good in the bottom of the frame.

Lee led off with a single up the middle and looked in danger of being left stranded as the KU defense came through with a pair of outs.

The Cowgirls had other plans as Nicholson and Calli Behmer posted back-to-back doubles, each earning a RBI to take a 3-2 lead. The Cowgirls then pushed a run home in the fifth and six innings for the final margin.

Sarah Seagraves remained perfect from the circle, improving to 9-0 with the win. The freshman struck out six while surrendering two runs in five innings. Bay picked up her third save of the year, striking out two in two innings of relief.

Oklahoma State (22-6) returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Wichita State to face the Shockers at 2 p.m. in the final installment of the annual series.
