STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team split a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon with the Oklahoma City Chiefs. OCU won the first game, 2- 1, before Oklahoma State pulled off a 10-5 win in game two.
OSU's Sheryl Anderson pitched a nice game to start off the day, giving up just two runs, one earned, while scattering three hits. The Cowgirls, however, scored just one run when Kristine Garcia scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaime Foutch in the sixth.
In the second game, Oklahoma State's Annie Gunderson gave up four runs on three walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error, all in the top of the first. Sarah Knife Chief came on in the top of the inning with one out, and gave up just one run in the third while scattering four hits.
Oklahoma State scored three in the bottom of the second, added four in the fourth to go ahead, 7-5, and added three insurance runs in the sixth on a bases- loaded triple by junior Shelly Graham. Graham went 2-for-5 in the game, with a run and three RBIs.
The Cowgirls had 15 hits in the game, including two each by Casey Acree, Graham, Foutch and Casey O'Neill, and Amanda Hayes went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Foutch hit her second home run of the season in the four-run fourth.
Oklahoma State (4-5) returns to action this weekend as the Cowgirls travel to Columbus, Ga., to compete in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, hosted by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. OSU will face Stanford in the Cowgirls' first game of the tournament on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
