The National Collegiate Equestrian Association has named three Cowgirls as student-athletes of the month for January, it was announced yesterday. The following student-athletes were selected by the NCEA for their accomplishments during the month of January.
Horsemanship: Katy Krshka (Oklahoma State)
Reining: Taylor New (Oklahoma State)
Equitation on the Flat: Leighona Bernstein (Oklahoma State)
Katy Krshka, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., was the top Horsemanship rider of the month during January. She went 2-0 during January with two Most Outstanding Player awards in the Cowgirls' competitions against Delaware State and Tennessee-Martin. Krshka put up impressive scores in both victories for Oklahoma State, as she posted scores of 76 and 76.5.
Taylor New, a senior from Anna, Texas, was the top Reining rider of the month during January. Like Krshka, she went 2-0 during January with a pair of Most Outstanding Player awards in Oklahoma State's wins over Delaware State and Tennessee-Martin.
In Equitation on the Flat, Oklahoma State's Leighona Bernstein was chosen at the top rider for January. In the Cowgirls' wins over Delaware State and Tennessee-Martin, the sophomore from Golden, Colo. went 2-0 with a pair of Most Outstanding Player Awards. She posted scores of 80 and 84, respectively.
