Cowgirl Equestrian Defeats No. 4 Kansas State, 13-6

STILLWATER – The No. 6 Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated the No. 4 Kansas State Wildcats in dominating fashion, 13-6, Saturday at the Animal Science Arena.

OSU (5-2) has won five straight and picked up its third win over a ranked opponent.

Senior Samantha Harrison earned her third-straight Most Outstanding Performer award in the over fences discipline with her 87-83 win over Cat Avolese. Also in the over fences event, Sammy Elser, a senior who finished second in the Winter Equestrian Festival Collegiate Equitation Challenge on Feb. 7, defeated Henley Adkins, 78-65. Senior Andrea Robbins won, 85-70, over Rachel Webster and freshman Jorden Davis picked up a win over Madison Wayda, 82-68. The Cowgirls won the event, 4-1.

In equitation, Davis remained undefeated in the discipline with her 83-78 win over Avolese. Also, senior Ali Rose defeated Henley Adkins, 87-81, her sixth win of the season. The Cowgirls tied K-State in the event, 2-2.

Over in reining, OSU earned a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats as junior Katy Krshka picked up her first of two Most Outstanding Performer awards on the day. Krshka defeated Jesse Johnson, 71.5-70. Sophomore Erin Willoughby earned her fourth win of the season with a 70.5-66 tally over Jordan Cox. Also, sophomores Justine Peters and Jenna Blumer both scored a 69.5 en route to their victories in the event. The Cowgirls won the reining discipline, 4-1.


 

 

In horsemanship, Krshka defeated Danielle Kemper 74-69.5 and earned her second Most Outstanding Performer award of the day. Sophomore Ty Paris picked up a win over Amelia Crites, 73.5-72 and junior Lindsey McMullen defeated Kelly Boviard in a close matchup by a score of 73-72.5. Paris and McMullen improved to 6-1 this season with the victories. The Cowgirls won the horsemanship discipline, 3-2.

The Cowgirls hit the road next weekend and travel to Fort Worth, Texas for a contest on Feb. 22 against No. 8 TCU at 11 a.m.
