
03/31/2012 Cowgirls Cut Down the NetsThe Cowgirls cut down the nets after winning the 2012 WNIT Championship. Former Kansas high school basketball coach Bill Annan is in his third season with the Oklahoma State women's basketball staff as its director of player development. Annan joined the Cowgirls after a successful stint at Washburn Rural High School. Annan's run at the Topeka school spanned nearly two decades and resulted in a career record of 303-109. Under his guidance, the Lady Blues won three state titles, finished second twice and placed third once. Annan assumed his duties as the head women's basketball coach at Washburn Rural in 1991, capturing state titles in 1996, 1999 and 2009 and producing runner-up finishes in 1998 and 2004. Washburn Rural's third-place effort came in 2000. Washburn Rural won 11 Centennial League titles in 18 years under Annan's guidance and made nine state tournament appearances. His teams reached the 20-win plateau six times, including a 24-1 mark in 1998 and 2009. A three-time Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Annan was also a seven-time pick as the conference coach of the year. On five occasions, he was named the Topeka Capital-Journal City Coach of the Year. Annan was twice named the publication's state coach of the year and was named the Kansas Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1999. Annan served as the KBCA president in 2002 after a three-year run as its vice-president. He began his coaching career in 1986 at Seaman (Kan.) High School where he served five seasons as an assistant for the boys' team. Annan received his bachelor's degree in business education from Kansas State in 1986 before receiving his master's in educational administration from K-State in 1993. Annan's duties in his current role include overseeing its summer basketball camps and annual fundraising events. He serves as a liaison between the program and the academic services staff. Annan and his wife, Marcia, have two sons, Trent and Grant, who are both students at OSU. |
