The Basics The Oklahoma State men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Columbia, Mo., on Saturday for the Big 12 Cross Country Championships. The women’s 6,000 meter race begins at 10 a.m. The 8,000 meter men’s race is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. Both races will be contested at the A.L. Gustin Golf Course.
Last Time Out With the return of Big 12 Champion German Fernandez and All-American Ryan Vail, the Cowboys cruised to a first-place finish at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. Sophomore Colby Lowe claimed the individual win with John Kosgei and Ryan Vail finishing in second and third, respectively. The Cowgirls posted a sixth-place finish and were again led by junior Mihaela Susa, who finished 28th.
Big 12 Rewind...2008 The Cowboys captured their first Big 12 title and German Fernandez became the first OSU runner to win an individual title in the 14-year history of the league. The Cowboys became the first team other than Colorado to win a Big 12 men’s crown. The Cowgirls finished seventh and Mihaela Susa claimed all-Big 12 honors with a 13th-place finish.
OSU in the Polls The Cowboys grabbed the No. 3 spot in the Week Five United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings. Stanford is ranked No. 1. In the USTFCCCA Midwest Region rankings, the Cowboys are No. 1 while the Cowgirls are ranked No. 10.
