IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State sophomore standout Colby Lowe has been named the Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Week; it was announced by the league office today.

The Southlake, Texas, native earned the honor after picking up his first collegiate victory at last Saturday’s Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. He edged teammate and Oct. 6 Runner of the Week John Kosgei by seven-hundredths of a second for the win. Lowe’s time for the 10,000-meter race was 29:30.9.

A 2008 all-Big 12 selection after fifth-place finish at the Big 12 conference meet, Lowe’s only finish outside of the top 10 in his career was at the NCAA Championships a year ago.

In two events this season, Lowe has recorded the win at the Chile Pepper Festival and a fourth-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree on Oct. 3.

The honor was the first conference weekly award for Lowe and in the first seven weeks of the 2009 season, the third-ranked Cowboys are the only team to boast two Big 12 Runners of the Week.
