STILLWATER -
The Oklahoma State men's cross country team remains No. 1 in the Midwest Region, and the women's team holds steady at No. 2 in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, released today.
The Cowboys continue to hold off No. 2 Oklahoma. There were no major shake-ups and the only new additions to this week's poll were Northern Iowa (No. 14) and Eastern Illinois at No. 15.
The Cowgirls remain at No. 2 behind Iowa State. Just as in the men's pool, there were no major shake-ups, and there were only two new additions, St. Louis debuting at No. 14 and Southern Illinois at No. 15.
Both teams are coming off solid showings at the Chile Pepper Invitational. The Cowboys finished in first place,taking six of the top 10 spots in the 10,000-meter race with senior Girma Mecheso finishing in second place individually with a time of 30:13.8. The Cowgirls are coming off a second-place finish, with Monika Juodeskaite also battling to a second-place finish with a time of 20:54.3.
Both teams have a weekend off and will return to action Oct. 27 when they travel to Austin, Texas, for the 2012 Big 12 Championships.
