FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The fourth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboy cross country team landed three runners in the top 10 en route to a first-place finish at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday. The Cowgirl runners finished sixth with junior Mihaela Susa posting a 28th-place finish.

The Cowboys claimed the top three spots in the 10,000-meter race with sophomore Colby Lowe edging senior John Kosgei by seven-hundredths of a second for the individual win. In his season debut, senior Ryan Vail finished a second behind Lowe and Kosgei for third place.

Also in his season debut, sophomore standout German Fernandez finished in 11th place, while sophomore Johnathon Stublaski posted a 12th-place showing to round out the Cowboy scorers at the meet. OSU’s 21 team points placed were 31 points clear of second-place Oklahoma.

In the 6,000-meter women’s race, Susa led the Cowgirls for the second-straight event. Her time of 21:46.87 was good for 28th place. Sophomore teammate Victoria Fratczak finished 11 seconds behind Susa in 32nd place.

Melanie Funke posted a 41st-place showing, while Alyse Goldsmith finished in 50th place and Jacqueline Campos finished in 59th place to score for the Cowgirls.

Texas Tech, which also claimed the Cowboy Jamboree title on Oct. 3, won the women’s race.
