Gansen at Jr. Freestyle World Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Tony Gansen will wrestle at the 1999 FILA Junior Freestyle World Championships on Aug. 19-22 in Sydney, Australia, site of the 2000 Olympic Games.

Gansen will wrestle at 167.5 pounds and compete against the best 17- to 20-year-olds in the world. He wrestled the 1998 season as a true freshman and posted a 9-6 record, while earning Academic All-Big 12 recognition for his work in the classroom.

He was also named the Outstanding Wrestler for freestyle at the World Team Trials. He decisioned the 1998 Junior World Champion, Don Pritzlaff of Champ Builders, in the World Team Trial finals at 167.5 pounds.

FILA Junior wrestlers must be born between 1979-1981 and are all college underclassmen, military athletes and high-school wrestling stars.

Team USA will be coached by Brad Penrith, assistant coach at the University of Northern Iowa, and Mark Schwab, assistant coach for the University of Minnesota.
