STILLWATER, Okla. Â Incoming Oklahoma State freshman wrestlers Alex Meade and Jordan Oliver both earned spots on the 2008 Asics All-America wrestling team, it was announced today. Meade, who just graduated from Caesar Rodney HS in Camden, Del., is a repeat selection to Asics’ first-team All-America squad as he was honored after his junior year as well. Oliver earned second-team All-American honors after finishing a successful career at Easton HS in Easton, Pa.
The ASICS All-America Team, selected by a nationwide panel of wrestling experts, is the only national all-star team for which wrestlers enrolled in all four high-school grades are eligible.
A three-time Delaware state champion, Meade compiled a 44-0 record his senior year and won his second consecutive Beast of the East title. RevWrestling.com ranked Meade as the No. 10 wrestler in the nation at any weight class. He won FILA cadet freestyle national championships in 2005 and 2007 and didn’t lose a high school match after his sophomore year.
One of the most decorated prep wrestlers in the nation this year, Oliver added to his list of honors and awards by earning a spot on this year’s Asics All-America team for the third time in his prep career. He won the 2008 national championship and his third Pennsylvania state title. He was a perfect 40-0 as a senior and was 134-1 from his sophomore year on. RevWrestling ranked him as the nation’s No. 7 wrestler at any weight class. He was a first-team Asics All-American after his sophomore year and was a second-team Asics All-American after his junior campaign.
Other former Asics All-Americans currently wrestling for Oklahoma State include Clayton Foster (2007 first team), Luke Silver (2007 second team), Jamal Parks (2007 second team), Jared Rosholt (2005 second team) and Brandon Mason (2004 third team).
Members of the First Team, as well as the ASICS Wrestler of the Year, will be honored prior to the finals of the ASICS Vaughan USA Wrestling Junior National Freestyle Championships in July at Fargo, N.D.
