STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State’s Taylor Monaghan travels as the lone Cowboy to suit up at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Monaghan will compete in the junior portion of the 3,000 meter steeplechase, set to begin at 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
The Tulsa, Okla., native competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase three times during his freshman campaign, clocking a personal-best 9:07.06 at the Big 12 Championships on May 16.
With that time, Monaghan placed sixth and earned all-Big 12 honors at his first Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Monaghan suited up twice more in the steeplechase, clocking a 9:13.76 at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 16 and a 9:14.53 in his steeplechase debut at the Stanford Invite on March 26.
The 2010 USA Junior Track and Field Championships, as well at the senior event, are being contested at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Drake Stadium will serve as the host site for the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Entrants in the USA Junior Track and Field Championships must be United States citizens who do not turn 20 years old during the 2010 calendar year. The qualifying mark for the 3,000 meter steeplechase is 9:38.00.
