STILLWATER, Okla. -
The Oklahoma State men's tennis team released its schedule for the 2013-14 season, Cowboy tennis coach Jay Udwadia announced today.
The Cowboys will kick off their fall season in Napa, Calif., from Sept. 13-15 at the Napa Valley Invitational, while select players will travel to Corpus Cristi, Texas, to take part in the Midlands Invitational. The team will compete in nearby Tulsa twice in the fall, starting with ITA's All-American Championships on Sept. 27 and returning for the ITA Regional Championships on Oct. 17.
The squad's spring schedule is highlighted by 16 matches against teams that finished in the top 75 of last year's ITA Men's National Team Rankings.
"As far as the competition goes, we will definitely have a lot of opportunities to play some of the best teams in the country this season," Udwadia said. "That's how our team is going to get better, by playing good teams and playing at the highest level of competition."
The brand new Greenwood Tennis Center will play host to the Cowboys' first match of the spring when Southern Illinois, South Dakota State and Minnesota come to Stillwater on Jan. 17 for a weekend tripleheader. The Cowboys will then welcome Tennessee, last year's SEC runner-up, for a match on Jan. 31.
A month-long road trip highlights the entire month of February, beginning with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face Alabama and Georgia State. After traveling through Kansas, Arkansas and Tulsa, the team will wrap up the road trip by competing in the Pacific Coast Doubles in San Diego, Calif.
Oklahoma State returns home on March 8 to host five consecutive matches in a weeklong span.
The Cowboys will begin their 2014 Big 12 conference slate with a weekend trip to Texas, facing TCU in Fort Worth on March 28 before traveling to Austin to face Texas on March 30. The squad will then kick off its conference home schedule two weeks later, hosting Texas Tech on April 11.
The team will wrap up its regular season on April 19 with a Bedlam battle against Oklahoma, last year's Big 12 champion.
"This year's group has a lot of depth," Udwadia said. "We look forward to performing at the highest level we can with this team's level of depth. We're going to take one match at a time and compete as a team to ensure our greatest chances of success."
The 2014 Big 12 Tournament will be held in Fort Worth, Texas, on the TCU campus from April 25-27.
