MANOA, Hawaii -
The No. 21 Oklahoma State men’s tennis team completed its non-conference schedule in victorious fashion on Tuesday, as the Cowboys defeated Hawaii, 6-1, at the Hawaii Tennis Complex.
OSU takes a 17-2 record into conference play with the win, marking the team’s best start heading into Big 12 action since the 2007 Cowboy Tennis Squad sat at 15-1 before beginning its conference slate.
In doubles play, the Cowboys earned their seventh-consecutive doubles point behind wins from Kadhe/Sude and Haworth/Bohrnstedt at Nos. 1 and 3. Kadhe/Sude took down Hawaii’s duo of Brooklyn/Casanova, 8-1, to give the tandem their fifth-straight win, while Haworth/Bohrnstedt used an 8-1 victory over Lam/Chan to match the Cowboys’ No. 1 doubles team with their fifth win in as many matches.
Several streaks continued in singles play as well, as Jakob Sude, Lucas Gerch, Brady Bohrnstedt, Chris Haworth and Nicolai Ferrigno each grabbed individual victories. 72nd-ranked Sude increased his No. 1 singles mark to 8-2 after defeating Nils Schuhmann, 6-2, 6-4, while Haworth and Ferrigno rounded out Nos. 5 and 6 with triumphs of their own.
Gerch improved his stellar freshman record to 12-0 in a 6-4, 6-0 rout of Hawaii’s Danilo Casanova, and Bohrnstedt won his 11th-consecutive match with a 6-2, 6-1 sweep of David Schuster.
The Cowboys will take a week and a half off before opening their Big 12 slate against 47th-ranked TCU on March 28 and No. 7 Texas on March 30. For more updates and information, follow @CowboyTennis on Twitter.
