LINCOLN, Neb. -
Oklahoma State’s men’s tennis team defeated Illinois State 6-1 on Saturday for the Cowboys’ second consecutive victory.
The Cowboys continued their ways of getting out to an early lead after Oleksiy Arovin and Brady Bohrnstedt sealed the match’s doubles point. The duo’s 8-6 victory came shortly after Rifat Biktyakov and Matt Campbell defeated Muddappa Appanervanda and Alexander Pelaez 8-1 for the pair’s second win of the season.
OSU (3-2) nearly pulled off its second sweep in a row after sweeping Western Illinois last weekend. Brady Bohrnstedt started off singles play by picking up his third victory of the year in a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Michael Sellitto. Chris Haworth kept the Cowboys rolling by defeating Erik Brunskog 6-2, 6-2, giving Oklahoma State a sizeable advantage.
Richard Del Nunzio sealed the victory for the Cowboys after picking apart Jacob Wilson 6-0, 6-1 for the freshman’s second victory of the season.
The Redbirds picked up a point when Rolando Torrellas squeaked by Matt Campbell in a super tiebreak, but the Cowboys finished strong with victories by Rifat Biktyakov and Denys Pume. Biktyakov earned his first win of the year after previously playing in three unfinished matches.
The Cowboys will look to continue the squad’s impressive play when they take on Nebraska on Sunday at 10 a.m.
