Oklahoma State's men's golf team carded the low round of the day at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, but came up two strokes shy of catching tournament champion Arizona State at Olympia Fields Country Club.

After carding a 289 on Sunday, the Cowboys finished alone in second place with a 32-over total of 872. The Sun Devils came in at 870, while Texas finished in third place at 875.

OSU senior Trent Whitekiller fired a 1-under 69 during his final round to move from a tie for seventh into a tie for first place. The Sallisaw, Okla., native shared medalist honors with Harris English after both players finished at 1-over 211.

Whitekiller moved under par with an eagle at the par-4 second before dropping back to level par with a double bogey at the third. After making the turn at even par, Whitekiller followed a bogey at the 12th with three-straight birdies to get to 2-under par. He closed with two pars and a bogey over his final three holes to tie English.

For Whitekiller, the win was his second as a Cowboy. His first career victory came last spring at the Linger Longer Invitational.

A pair of Cowboys joined Whitekiller in the top 20 as sophomore Peter Uihlein tied for 14th place and junior Kevin Tway finished tied for 17th.

Uihlein posted a 74 on Sunday for a 218 total, while Tway carded his third consecutive 73 for a 219 tally.

Sophomore Morgan Hoffmann finished at 225 and tied for 38th place after turning in a 73.

Redshirt freshman Sean Einhaus tied for 59th at 233 in his first start as a Cowboy after finishing with an 81.

The Cowboys will resume their fall slate on Sept. 27 when they take part in the Ping/Golfweek Invitational in Bremerton, Wash.
