With a 288 during its second round, Oklahoma State's men's golf team rose six spots into a tie for third at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Saturday at Olympia Fields Country Club. The Cowboys' 8-over score knotted them with Stanford for third at 583, 23-over. Arizona State will take a four-stroke lead over Texas into tomorrow's final round. The Sun Devils posted a 284 and have a 577 total, while the Longhorns stand at 581. Senior Trent Whitekiller continued to pace the Cowboys with his second consecutive 71. The Sallisaw, Okla., native finished the day tied for seventh place at 2-over 142. Whitekiller made the turn at even par and moved into red figures with a birdie on his 10th hole before playing his final eight holes 2-over par. Florida's Max Kieffer and Florida State's Seath Lauer are the only players under par. Each player finished the day with a 1-under 139 total and stand one shot clear of the field. Sophomore Peter Uihlein recovered from an opening 75 with a 1-under 69 to move into a tie for 12th at 144. Uihlein put together a bogey-free round that included 17 pars and one birdie to move up 22 spots in the individual standings. Junior Kevin Tway moved into the top 20 after firing his second-straight 73. Tway is tied for 19th place at 146. Sophomore Morgan Hoffmann and redshirt freshman Sean Einhaus came in tied for 49th place at 152. Hoffmann carded a 75, while Einhaus posted his second consecutive 76 on Saturday. The Cowboys will close out play at the par-70, 7,205-yard layout tomorrow at 9:20 a.m. (CST) and will play with Arizona State and Texas.
