STILLWATER - A battle with Florida State at the 2014 Cowboys Classic on Aug. 30 and a trip to Norman for Bedlam on either Nov. 29 or Dec. 6 mark a sensational beginning and a sensational ending to the 2014 Oklahoma State football schedule, which was announced today.
Also notable is that the Cowboys return to the Thursday night slate for the first time since 2011 when they host Texas Tech on Sept. 25 in Boone Pickens Stadium.
OSU's season-opening battle with Florida State at the Cowboys Classic on neutral turf in Arlington's AT&T Stadium will be one of the marquee matchups of the early portion of the national college football schedule, with the Cowboys and Seminoles both consistently notable programs on both the conference and national levels.
After the opener in Arlington, the Pokes settle in for a four-game homestand that starts Sept. 6 when Missouri State comes to town. Former Cowboy assistant Larry Coker brings his UTSA squad to Stillwater on Sept. 13 to cap the non-conference portion of the schedule.
After a bye week, OSU opens Big 12 play with Texas Tech on Thursday night, Sept. 25. A pair of the most memorable games of the Mike Gundy era were played on Thursday nights in Boone Pickens Stadium, with Brandon Weeden coming off the bench to lead the Cowboys to victory over Colorado in 2009 and Dan Bailey kicking a game-winning field goal with no time on the clock to sink Texas A&M in 2010.
OSU hosts Iowa State on Oct. 4 before taking on Kansas in Lawrence on Oct. 11.
The Cowboys' first trip to TCU since 1992 takes place on Oct. 18 and will be followed by West Virginia coming to Stillwater on Oct. 25.
OSU and Kansas State have had close battles the last few years and that series will be renewed on Nov. 1 in Manhattan. The Pokes have won five of their last seven meetings with K-State, but the Cowboys and Wildcats have only been separated by a total of nine points during that stretch.
