OKLAHOMA CITY - Former Oklahoma State standouts Jon Kolb and Bob Tway will be among the six members of the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame's class of 2009 it has been announced. Joining the duo will be Tom Catlin, Clem McSpadden, who was also an OSU graduate, Cal McLish and Ted Owens. A graduate of Owasso High School, Kolb was a center for the Cowboy football team and earned All-Big Eight honors in 1967 and 1968 and All-America accolades in 1968. A third-round NFL draft choice and the 56th pick overall in 1969, Kolb played 13 years for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He started 177 games as an offensive tackle and was a member of four Super Bowl championship teams at Pittsburgh. Regarded as the strongest player in the NFL during his playing days, Kolb was responsible for protecting quarterback Terry Bradshaw and paving the way for running backs Franco Harris, Rocky Bleier and John Fuqua. Upon retiring as a player, Kolb became the strength coach for Pittsburgh. He currently owns his own training facility. Tway was a three-time All-American for the Cowboy golf team. He won the Haskins Award as a senior and helped lead OSU to two national titles during his freshman and junior campaigns. Tway turned professional in 1981 and joined the PGA Tour in 1985 where he went on to win numerous tournaments. In 1986, he was named the PGA Player of the Year, won the PGA Championship and finished second on the final money list. He also was named the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year in 1995. During his career, Tway logged eight PGA Tour victories. Catlin, Kolb and McLish were previously selected by the Hall of Fame's Honors Committee. McSpadden, Tway and Owens were recently voted in by the Jim Thorpe Association's members, sportswriters and sportscasters, previous inductees and other Oklahoma professional athletes.
