STILLWATER, Okla. - The major college football awards are issuing their preseason watch lists this week and Oklahoma State is included in most every group.
Quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon headline the group as members of the Maxwell Award preseason watch list. The Maxwell Award is given to the nation's most outstanding player.
Blackmon and Josh Cooper are both on the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation's most outstanding receiver. Blackmon is the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner after turning in one of the best seasons in NCAA history last year. Though he was largely overlooked last season, Cooper recorded one of the best receiving seasons ever at Oklahoma State in 2010. His 68 receptions a year ago is good for seventh on the all-time Cowboy list.
A trio of offensive linemen are on the radar screen for major awards, as Grant Garner is receiving consideration for the Rimington Award given to the nation's top center, with tackle Levy Adcock and guard Lane Taylor both on the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy presented to the nation's top interior lineman.
One of the most devastating hitters in the country, safety Markelle Martin is on the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Award given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player.
The Ray Guy Award given to the nation's best punter has the most discriminating preseason watch list of them all with only five players included, but sure enough, Oklahoma State's Quinn Sharp is one of the five after being a semifinalist for the award a year ago.
