STILLWATER, Okla. -
Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy has announced the hiring of Dana Holgorsen as the Cowboys' new offensive coordinator. Holgorsen spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator at the University of Houston.
Prior to his stint in Houston, he was on the staff at Texas Tech from 2000 through 2007.
"We're elated that Dana is joining our staff," Gundy said. "He has a great pedigree, and a history of success. We're excited about what he brings to the OSU football program."
Over the past two years at Houston, Holgorsen and the Cougars put up explosive offensive numbers. Under his direction, the Cougars ended the 2009 season as the national leader in total offense with 563 yards per game, scoring offense with 42.2 points per game, and passing offense with 433.7 yards per game.
"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to work with Coach Gundy and his program at OSU," Holgorsen said. "I want to thank head coach Kevin Sumlin and the University of Houston for my time in Houston. It's great to be a part of the Oklahoma State family and to be back in the Big 12."
A native of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, who played at Iowa Wesleyan, Holgorsen has been in the coaching ranks since 1993. During his stay in Lubbock, his various titles included inside receivers coach, co-offensive coordinator, and eventually offensive coordinator (2005 through 2007) and quarterbacks coach. Over that period of time, the Red Raiders increased their offensive numbers from 324.8 yards per game to 529.6 yards per game.
His other career stops have included Valdosta State, Mississippi College and Wingate.
There will be some changes in day-to-day responsibilities for the current OSU football staff. More information on those changes will be announced as they are finalized.
