Oklahoma State’s James Anderson has been named to the Naismith Trophy 2009-10 Preseason Watch List, announced today by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. He is one of eight members of Big 12 Conference schools listed. Anderson, a junior guard, is the third-leading returning scorer in the Big 12 Conference after averaging 18.2 points per game a year ago. One of the top shooters in the country, he is shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc in his career, including 40.8 percent last season as a sophomore. The Big 12 Conference has claimed two of the last three Naismith Trophy winners, given annually to the men’s college player of the year. The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2009-10 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T will be awarded at the 2010 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Indianapolis, Ind. Other Big 12 players on the list include: Cole Aldrich, Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry of Kansas, Iowa State’s Craig Brackins, Avery Bradley and Damion James of Texas, and Oklahoma’s Willie Warren. Anderson and the rest of the Cowboys open the 2009-10 season on Saturday, Nov. 7, when OSU hosts Central Oklahoma in an exhibition game. Tipoff has not yet been announced.
