Stillwater, Okla. — For the second time this season, Oklahoma State freshman Marcus Smart has been named the Big 12 Conference's Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the league office in a vote by media who regularly cover the member teams.
Smart averaged 24 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games against ranked opponents last week. He scored a career-high 23 points against 10th-ranked Gonzaga, then followed that with a new career-high 25 points against No. 25 Kansas State. The 6-4 guard shot 61.5 percent from the floor, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. He also dished out eight assists in the two games, including six against the Zags.
Smart is the first Cowboy to receive multiple Rookie of the Week honors since James Anderson was named twice in 2007-08. He and the Cowboys entertain Big 12 newcomer TCU on Wednesday night at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
