Oklahoma State finished the 2009 season with a 34-24 record and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight year and fifth time in six seasons under head coach Frank Anderson. The Cowboys advanced to the championship round of the NCAA Clemson Regional, marking the fourth consecutive year they have played for an NCAA Regional title. OSU was ranked in at least three of the national polls for the first eight weeks of the season, which extended its streak of being nationally ranked to 18 consecutive weeks. OSU was ranked No. 27 in the final 2009 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. The Cowboys had 10 wins against ranked teams in 2009, including three wins over Top 10 teams (#6 Cal State Fullerton, #7 Baylor and #9 Texas). OSU was ranked No. 26 in the final official NCAA RPI rankings. The Cowboys had six players earn All-Big 12 distinction. Making the first team was outfielder Micheal Dabbs, while outfielder Neil Medchill and starting pitcher Tyler Blandford both earned second-team accolades.
