TULSA, Okla. -- Oklahoma State had its eight-game winning streak against Oklahoma at Drillers Stadium snapped Friday night in Tulsa as the 17th-ranked Sooners opened the Bedlam Series with a 5-2 win in front of 10,757 fans.

The Cowboys, who had not lost to OU in Tulsa since the 2000 season, dropped to 29-20 overall and 6-14 in Big 12 Conference play with Friday's setback. The Cowboys scored both their runs in the first inning and left seven runners on base.

OU, which entered the game with a conference-best 81 home runs, hit a pair of round trippers off OSU starter Andrew Oliver and improved to 36-15 overall and 13-9 in Big 12 play.

OSU jumped out to an early lead via the long ball in its first at bat. After Tyrone Hambly was hit by a pitch, Neil Medchill blasted an opposite-field, two-run home run over the wall in left field to put the Cowboys up 2-0. The homer was Medchill's team leading 12th of the season and first since April 17.

The Sooners cut into OSU's lead in the fourth as Bryant Hernandez led off the frame with a homer down the left field line. The blast was the 10th of the season for Hernandez.

The score remained 2-1 until the top of the sixth. With one out, OU's Matt Harughty collected an infield single, and after Oliver struck out Hernandez, J.T. Wise put the Sooners on top with his 16th homer of the season, a two-run shot to left-center field.

OU added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth, getting RBI singles from Kaleb Herron and Jamie Johnson off Cowboy closer Randy McCurry to make the score 5-2. McCurry faced six batters in the ninth and allowed four singles.

Oliver suffered the loss for the Cowboys to fall to 5-6 season on the season. The junior southpaw allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six.

Michael Rocha earned the win in relief of OU starter Stephen Porlier. Rocha (4-2) worked six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven.

OU closer Ryan Duke set the Cowboys down in order in the ninth to record his 11th save.

The Bedlam Series shifts to Oklahoma City for the final two games at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 7:07 p.m., while Sunday's finale is a 4:05 p.m. start.
