STILLWATER, Okla. - A four-run second inning propelled Oklahoma State to a 5-3 win over Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

With the win, the Cowboys snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 15-6. OSU is now 12-1 on its home field this season.

All four of OSU's runs in the pivotal inning came with two outs to help Andrew Heaney pick up his second win of the season on the mound, while Ian McCarthy came on in relief and earned the first save of his career.

OSU fell behind early on a two-run home run by Zach Maxfield in the top of the first inning, but the Cowboys would not trail for long.

In the bottom of the second, OSU had a runner on first and two outs when the Cowboys started a game-changing rally.

Dane Phillips got the scoring started with a double that brought home OSU's first run, a hit that also extended the freshman's hitting streak to 15 games. Fellow frosh Kevin Chambers followed with a double of his own to tie the score at 2-2.

The Cowboys' third-straight hit, a single off the bat of Dusty Harvard, made the score 3-2, and Davis Duren followed that with another RBI single to push OSU's lead to two.

OSU added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI single by Ginther, while FGCU (14-9) managed its only other run in the eighth.

Heaney worked seven innings and struck out a career-high eight. The freshman southpaw allowed just two runs on four hits and walked one.

McCarthy relieved Heaney in the eighth and allowed just one unearned run and one hit while striking out four over the final two innings.

Wednesday's series finale is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
