STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State junior Robbie Rea was honored by a pair of outlets Monday for his play last week, picking up Big 12 Conference Co-Player of the Week accolades as well as being named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
In four games last week, Rea led OSU to three wins by hitting .438 (7-for-16) with three home runs, three doubles, 11 RBIs, and a 1.188 slugging percentage. The second baseman also tallied five runs, 19 total bases and a stolen base.
Rea’s big week was highlighted by a record-setting performance in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader against Alabama A&M. In that contest, he was 5-for-5 at the plate with three home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs.
With the three homers, Rea became just the 10th Cowboy in history to homer three times in a game, a feat that has been achieved just 13 times in OSU history and hadn’t been done since 2009.
Rea’s 16 total bases tied a Big 12 Conference record, and his nine RBIs in the game were one short of the OSU record and also fell ony shy of the Big 12 record.
Rea opened the game with a three-RBI double, then delivered home runs in three consecutive at bats (in the third, fifth and sixth innings). He ended his day with a leadoff double in the eighth inning.
In Saturday’s nightcap, Rea was 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
Earlier in the week, Rea drove in one of OSU’s two runs in a loss at Missouri State.
Rea shared Big 12 Player of the Week honors with Kansas State infielder Jake Brown.
