STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State erased deficits in the seventh and eighth innings to earn a 9-7 win over Arkansas-Little Rock Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The win snapped OSU’s two-game losing skid as the Cowboys improved to 14-11 on the season, which includes victories in 12 of their 15 home games.
Seniors Jared Womack and Mark Ginther led the Cowboys with three hits apiece, while fellow senior Gabe Weidenaar picked up the first win of his OSU career with two innings in relief on the mound.
OSU fell behind 5-3 after the Trojans (15-10) struck for three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Cowboys came up clutch with the bats just an inning later.
Back-to-back walks to Gage Green and Hunter Bailey opened the bottom of the seventh, and a one-out single by Jared Womack brought home a run and trimmed OSU’s deficit to one. After a wild pitch moved the runners up, an RBI groundout by Robbie Rea tied the score at 5-5.
The Cowboys weren’t done as Ginther followed with an RBI single of his own to give OSU the lead.
However, that lead did last long as the Trojans answered with a pair of runs off Weidenaar in the eighth. After a leadoff walk, Cameron Bentley doubled to put UALR runners on second and third with no outs. The visitors then scored on two-straight plays, getting an RBI single by Myles Parma and taking a 7-6 lead when Bentley scored on an error.
As quickly as the Cowboys surrendered the lead, they took it back in the bottom of the frame. A hit-by-pitch and two walks loaded the bases with one out, and up next, Jarrett Higgins delivered with a two-RBI single through the left side to put OSU back on top. The Pokes made it 9-7 when Womack followed with an RBI double.
In the ninth, UALR brought the tying run to the plate following a leadoff walk, but Weidenaar struck out the side to end the game.
OSU returns to Big 12 Conference action Friday when they open a series in Waco, Texas, against Baylor.
