STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State pushed its win streak to four with a 6-2 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 10-7 on the season, including a 9-1 mark on their home field, and ran their record against UAPB to 22-0 all time.
In his second start of the season, junior Chase Stevens was again impressive as he improved to 3-0. The right-hander struck out seven and allowed two runs on six hits to get the win.
OSU got on the board early with a pair of runs in the second inning. Gabe Weidenaar got things started with a leadoff walk, and Trey Whaley followed with a single. After a sacrifice bunt by Robbie Rea, UAPB pitcher Redmond Floyd walked two consecutive batters to bring home a run.
Two batters later, Jared Womack collected a two-out, RBI single to put the Cowboys up by a 2-0 margin.
The Pokes added three more runs in the third, compliments of a bases-loaded double off the bat of Wes Jones, who missed a grand slam by inches. The three-RBI two-bagger gave OSU a 5-0 lead.
The Golden Lions (1-15-1) tallied the first of their runs in the fourth, getting a two-out RBI double from Soloman Williams to make the score 5-1.
OSU’s final run came in the fifth when Womack collected his second RBI of the contest by drawing a walk with the bases full.
Junior Jake Abbott worked the final three innings in relief of Stevens to earn his first-career save as the righty struck out five and allowed just one hit.
Whaley and Zach Fish each collected two hits for the Cowboys, with Fish extending his hitting streak to 14 games. That streak marks the longest active streak in the Big 12 Conference.
The Cowboys close out their series with UAPB Wednesday at 4 p.m.
