Cowgirls Drop Game One Against No. 1/1 Oklahoma
May 05, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER– The No. 7/6 Oklahoma State softball team fell to No. 1/1 Oklahoma, 8-3, Friday evening at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the result, OSU moved to 41-11 and 10-6 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma moved to 47-1 and 16-0 against conference opposition.
It was a battle between the two reigning Big 12 Co-Pitchers of the Year as Kelly Maxwell and Jordy Bahl each got the nod in the circle for their respective teams. Maxwell pitched 3.1 innings in the contest and struck out five to match the season-high for an opposing pitcher against the Sooners.
Oklahoma grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of a bases-loaded situation with a base on balls to nab an early advantage.
The Pokes immediately responded with a three-run homer from Chyenne Factor in the bottom of the first to capture the lead, 3-1. It's her second homer in as many games, as the graduate senior hit one out against North Texas on Wednesday night. Factor's home run snapped a 38.2 scoreless innings streak from Bahl.
The Sooners regained the lead with a three-run homer Cydney Sanders in the top of the second and did not look back.
OU added to its lead in the fifth inning off reliever Lexi Kilfoyl, piecing together three consecutive base-hits to extend its advantage, 5-3. The Sooners added another in the sixth inning, a solo shot by Alyssa Brito over the left field wall.
Oklahoma rounded out its scoring with two runs in the seventh to bring its lead to five runs.
Tonight's attendance of 1,602 set a new program record, shattering the previous record of 1,384 against Clemson in the NCAA Super Regionals last season.
The Bedlam series continues at 4 p.m. CT tomorrow on ESPN and can be heard on The Varsity Network.
