OSU Softball Falters Against Iowa State In Extra Innings
April 16, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Iowa State's 11th-inning RBI single proved to be the difference as the No. 3/3 Oklahoma State Softball team fell to Iowa State in 11 innings, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the loss, OSU fell to 39-4 and 8-1 in Big 12 play, while Iowa State moved to 14-25 and 2-10 against conference opposition.
For the first time this series, and for the 25th time this season, the Cowgirls got on the board in the first inning.
A leadoff double from Rachel Becker opened the inning and extended her on-base streak to 43 games. After stealing third, Becker scored on a Kiley Naomi RBI single to give OSU the lead, 1-0.
With her hit today, Becker extended her current hit streak to 19 games, passing her mark of 18 games, previously set earlier in the season. She owns the second- and third-longest hitting streaks in program history, behind Taylor Lynch with a hit in 23 straight games in 2016.
Iowa State immediately responded with two runs of their own to claim the lead, 2-1.
The Cowgirls tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Morgyn Wynne that scored Kiley Naomi to knot the game at two apiece.
Both teams were held scoreless until the 11th inning, when the Cyclones broke through with an RBI single that gave them the lead and ultimately the win, 3-2.
The Pokes are back in action for a ranked matchup in Stillwater this Tuesday with No. 20/23 Wichita State; first pitch is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
