OSU Softball Prevails Over Central Arkansas, 7-3
March 15, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
CONWAY, Ark. – The No. 2 Oklahoma State softball team's four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as it secured the comeback victory over Central Arkansas, 7-3, Wednesday night.
With the win, OSU improved to 21-2 and UCA fell to 15-7.
Central Arkansas grabbed an early lead off Cowgirl starter Ivy Rosenberry after an RBI single brought home a run in the first inning. The Bears added to their lead in the second following an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk. Following that walk, reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week Kyra Aycock came in for relief and immediately got a strikeout, getting out of the jam.
Aycock would go on to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings, strike out four batters and earn the win to improve to 6-0 on the year. Her dominating presence in the circle allowed the Oklahoma State offense time to get going, and it eventually did.
A leadoff single from Rachel Becker opened the fourth inning, extending her on-base streak to 23 games this season. Another two singles loaded the bases for Micaela Wark, who capitalized with her 25th RBI of the season to put OSU on the board. An RBI groundout scored another, while a two-RBI single from Katie Lott gave the Cowgirls their first lead of the game, one which they never lost.
OSU added two more runs in the sixth after a sacrifice fly from Katelynn Carwile and an RBI single from Chyenne Factor, that extended the lead to 6-3. The Cowgirls' final run of the game came from Morgyn Wynne in the seventh, who hit her second pinch-hit home run of the year, a solo shot to right field.
Coming in to pitch the final two innings was OSU ace Kelly Maxwell, who earned her second save of the season. Of the seven batters she faced, Maxwell struck out five.
Up next, the Pokes welcome Arizona State and UCF to Stillwater for the 15th edition of the OSU Mizuno Classic. Games begin Friday and conclude on Sunday, with OSU set to play five games throughout the weekend. OSU's games on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday can be watched on ESPN+, however all five games can be heard on The Varsity Network app.
