OSU Responds With Run-Rule Victory Over No. 5/6 Florida State
March 11, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The No. 3 Oklahoma State softball team's high-powered offense was too much for No. 5/6 Florida State to handle as the Cowgirls evened the series with a 9-1 run-rule victory Saturday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 19-2 and FSU fell to 21-4.
Freshman Kyra Aycock improved to 5-0 with the run-rule victory, setting the tone with only two hits given up and five strikeouts. Her single earned run allowed is her first through her first 5 starts. FSU pitcher Mack Leonard fell to 0-1 with the loss.
The Cowgirls immediately established a four-run lead in the first inning. Kiley Naomi was first to score, bringing Rachel Becker home with an RBI double. A bases-clearing single from Micaela Wark extended the lead, with Audrey Schneidmiller rounding out the scoring with an RBI groundout that scored Wark.
In the next inning, OSU added two more, with RBI base-hits from Naomi and Wark, again. In the third, the Pokes brought the game into run-rule territory with another two-run inning. A bases-loaded error from FSU gifted OSU two runs, extending the lead to 8-0 after three innings played. It marked the first time since Feb. 26, 2023, against UTEP that OSU has scored 2+ runs in three consecutive innings.
FSU stayed alive with a solo shot in the fourth inning, however a bases-loaded walk in the next inning gave the Cowgirls the walk-off run-rule victory in five innings.
Today's win snapped FSU's 12-game win streak and was OSU's largest margin of victory over a top-five ranked team in school history.
Individually, Becker went 2-for-2 with two walks, extending her streak of reaching base safely to 21 games, which equates to every game of Oklahoma State's season.
The Cowgirls return to action at 2 p.m. CT tomorrow, March 12, for the rubber match against the Seminoles. The game can be streamed on ESPN+ and heard on The Varsity Network.
