STILLWATER – Oklahoma State center Brad Lundblade has been a key contributor on the Cowboys' offensive line for the past three seasons, and in that time he has become a model of what can be achieved through his dedication both on and off the field. This year, he is entering the final stretch of his storied OSU career.
Lundblade first arrived in Stillwater as a late walk-on in 2014, but he quickly worked his way up the team's depth chart and made his way onto the field. After working his way into the squad's two-deep, Lundblade played significant reps in Oklahoma State's last seven games of the 2014 season, which included earning his first career start on the road against Baylor.
The Argyle, Texas native's success story continued to develop prior to the opening of fall camp in 2015 when the OSU coaching staff made the decision to put him on scholarship.
After being awarded a scholarship, Lundblade took over as the team's full-time starter at the center position. He started every game for the Cowboys in 2015, snapping without incident from the offense's first drive of the season all the way through OSU's appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
At the season's end, Lundblade was tabbed as a First Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree and was also a first-team selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District squad.
Lundblade continued to find tremendous success both on the field and in the classroom during his junior season in 2016, as he once again started at center in all 13 of the Cowboys' contests.
During his second season as a full-time starter, Lundblade helped turn the OSU offensive line back into a considerable force. He also played a major role in All-American Justice Hill becoming the first freshman in school history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a season.
With Lundblade guiding the offensive line, the Cowboys went from averaging 3.6 yards per carry and 126.8 yards per game in 2015 to averaging 4.5 yards per carry and 171.0 yards per game in 2016. Oklahoma State's running backs totaled 25 rushing touchdowns in 2016, a mark which matched the two-year total from 2014 and 2015 combined.
Lundblade also racked up several postseason academic honors to complement his on-field successes in 2016, as he earned his second First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection and was named to the CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District squad for a second consecutive season.
The highlight of Lundblade's academic achievements in 2016 though came when he was awarded a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football first team. He was the only player from a Big 12 school to earn a spot on the Academic All-America first team in 2016.
Lundblade's final accolade from an impressive junior campaign came during the Oklahoma State football banquet last December. At the end-of-year banquet, he was one of four Cowboys to receive the Vernon Grant Award, which is given to Cowboys that display outstanding leadership and enthusiasm.
Now entering his senior season, Lundblade has earned a spot on the Rimington Trophy 2017 Spring Watch List, which is presented annually to the most outstanding center at the FBS level. He is one of 63 players on the list for the award and is also one of eight Big 12 athletes included on the list.
Lundblade will also serve as part of the Big 12 Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this season. He is one of 24 student-athletes from the conference, while also being one of three Big 12 athletes to represent the student-athlete voice when reviewing and voting for proposed autonomy legislation.
Through his first three seasons, Brad Lundblade has secured his spot as one of the Cowboys' leaders on the offensive line. This year, he'll look to write the final chapter of his inspirational and storied Oklahoma State career.
