STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph's impressive list of preseason accolades continued to grow Tuesday, as the Heisman candidate was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list.
Rudolph, who was named to the Maxwell Award watch list last week, is one of 108 players to be considered for the Wuerffel Trophy which honors college football's top community servant. He is also one of six athletes from the Big 12 to be included on the list.
Entering his senior season, Mason Rudolph has played at a level that matches some of Oklahoma State's most successful quarterbacks. The Rock Hill, South Carolina native has been tabbed as the No. 1 senior quarterback in the country by Mel Kiper and the No. 19 player in college football heading into the 2017 season by Athlon Sports.
Rudolph has led the Cowboys to a 22-6 record during his two-plus seasons as a starter and has led OSU to eight second-half come-from-behind wins during that time. He led all FBS quarterbacks returning in 2017 in both interception avoidance and touchdown-to-interception ration in 2016, and he has set no fewer than 11 school records during his tenure at quarterback.
He is also in position to set OSU career records for pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns in 2017 and has a chance to finish his career as the most efficient passer in Oklahoma State history.
In the spirit of the award, Rudolph has been tremendously involved with numerous community organizations on several occasions, including but not limited too: Coaches vs. Cancer, Read Across America, the YMCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tim Tebow's Night To Shine Prom, Future Farmers of America, Grace Living Center (Nursing Home), Stillwater Medical Center, Nike N7, University Heights Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church and the Manning Passing Academy.
The formal announcement of the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy recipient will be made at the National Football Foundation's press conference in New York City on December 5. The presentation of the award will occur at the 49th Annual All Sports Association Awards Banquet on February 16, 2018 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
