STILLWATER ---- Oklahoma State softball's Brandi Needham held No. 7 Oklahoma scoreless through five innings but a solo home run in the top of the sixth propelled the Sooners to a 1-0 win on senior day Saturday at Cowgirl Stadium. The Sooners pitched a combined no-hitter, the first against the Cowgirls this season, on their way to taking the series finale.
Â
Needham (18-8), a senior, was fantastic in her last appearance in the circle at Cowgirl Stadium. Â She went seven innings and allowed just five hits and one run.
Â
"Tough game," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "Anytime you lose like this, it's tough. These kids put so much into every season and everything that they do. Credit them. They played extremely well. We just have to continue to fight and get better each day. I told our team, the first two seasons are done. Now we look forward to the postseason. We'll start off with the conference tournament. Hopefully get us refocused and ready to go and hit the most important part of our year."
Â
Oklahoma State (33-22 Overall, 12-6 Big 12) stood toe-to-toe once again with one of the best teams in the country, holding the Sooners to two hits through five innings as the teams traded scoreless innings.
Â
The Sooners (47-8, 17-1) eventually scored its lone run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to left center.
Â
With the regular season completed, Oklahoma State has secured the No. 3 spot in the Big 12 standings, its best finish since 2010 when the Cowgirls finished third with a 12-6 record.
Â
On the year the Cowgirls finished with six more conference wins than 2016, and four more wins the entire 2016 season. The 30 wins marks the first time since 2013 OSU has won 30 or more games and just the eighth time in program history.
