Cowboys Drop Midweek Contest At Oral Roberts
May 02, 2017 | Cowboy Baseball
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State came up short against in-state foe Oral Roberts Tuesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium as the Cowboys fell 4-1.
Â
OSU's third-straight loss dropped the Cowboys to 23-19 on the season, while the Golden Eagles won their fifth in a row and improved to 32-11.
Â
OSU has not won on ORU's home field since March 28, 1995, a streak of seven consecutive losses. The Cowboys are scheduled to face the Golden Eagles once more at Johnson Stadium in 2017, with that meeting coming on May 16.
Â
Six different ORU pitchers held the Cowboys to a season-low two hits, while OSU starter Blake Battenfield took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season.
Â
The Golden Eagles plated their first run in the third against Battenfield on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Nick Roark, and they extended that lead in the next inning as Jake Cowan gave up a pair of hits before a sacrifice fly by Brent Williams made the score 2-0.
Â
ORU continued to increase its lead in the fifth against the third Cowboy pitcher of the night, Reid Morgan. After loading the bases on two walks and a single, Noah Cummings delivered a two-out, two-RBI 1B to center field to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 advantage.
Â
The Cowboys' lone run came in the sixth. After pinch hitter Cade Cabbiness was hit by a pitch and Garrett Benge walked, McCain laced an RBI single through the right side.
Â
OSU's only other hit came on a leadoff double by Jon Littell in the third inning, but he was left stranded there.
Â
The Cowboys return to action Friday night when they open a three-game series with Lamar at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
