Oklahoma Postgame Notes
February 18, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
- The win over the Sooners gives OSU their first in-season sweep of Oklahoma since 2004, and just their fifth Bedlam sweep in the last 50 years. Brad Underwood is just the fourth OSU coach to ever take both meetings with OU, joining Mr. Henry Iba (13 times), Eddie Sutton (three times) and Paul Hansen (once).
- This ends OU's three-game win streak in GIA. The Cowboys last beat the Sooners in Stillwater on Feb. 16, 2013, when Marcus Smart's 28 points helped the Cowboys take down OU, 84-79, in overtime.
- Jawun Evans scored 27 points on the night, including 16 straight down the stretch for OSU. Evans' 3-point play with 1:08 left gave the Cowboys a 94-92 lead. It is the 30th career double-digit scoring game and his 14th career 20-point outing.
- Oklahoma State's 96 points are the Cowboys 2nd most against Oklahoma in the last 20 seasons (scored 97 in 2010).
- Jeffrey Carroll scored 23 points for his 42nd career double-figure scoring performance, and his 13th career 20-point game.
- With 22 points on the night, Phil Forte (1,680 points, 2012-Pr.) passed the legendary Bob Kurland (1,669 points, 1942-46) for seventh in school history in career points. It was Forte's 90th career double-digit scoring game.
- Forte played in his 129th career game for OSU, which tied him with Desmond Mason (1996-00), Darwyn Alexander (1988-92) and Chianti Roberts (1993-97) for eighth in school history in career appearances.
- Forte leads the nation in free throw percentage, and has now hit his last 16 free throws.
- The win gives the Cowboys their second in-season sweep of the year. OSU also took both meetings against TCU this season. The Cowboys will have another sweep opportunity when Texas Tech visits GIA next weekend.
- The Cowboys are now 18-9 on the year and 7-7 in Big 12 play, which is remarkable considering OSU was in last place in the Big 12 riding a 6-game losing streak on Jan. 18.
- The crowd of 13,611 marks the third sellout of Gallagher-Iba Arena this season, and the 46th sellout since the capacity was increased for the 2000-01 season. The last time OSU sold out GIA three times in a season was in 2012-13 (4 times).
- The Sooners scored 53 points in the first half, which is an opponent season-high. OU led by as many 14 points with 2:34 remaining in the first half.
- OSU has now won eight of their last nine games, which is the program's most prosperous stretch after the turn of the New Year since the 2012-13 squad won 10-of-11 in Big 12 play.
- The sweep of the Sooners closes the OU lead in the overall series to 136-96. The Cowboys now lead 62-45 in Stillwater.
- Cowboy head coach Brad Underwood is now 107-23 on his career, and his win percentage of .823 is tops among all active coaches.
- The Cowboys will head to Manhattan, Kansas to face Kansas State. It will be Brad Underwood's first trip back to his alma mater as a head coach.
