Cowgirl Soccer Signs Eight
February 01, 2017 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State inked eight players to its incoming class for 2017, it was announced today by Cowgirl head coach Colin Carmichael.
Â
The list of signees includes seven players from the high school ranks as well as a Division I transfer, and the group is strong with players who have youth national team experience and who have played with high-level club teams. Five of the newcomers hail from Texas, while OSU signed two from Oklahoma and one from France.
Â
"We're really excited about this year's class and feel like we've filled some of our needs that are open through graduation," Carmichael said. "There's a lot of talented kids coming in, and it's a pretty big class in numbers. We expect them to make a contribution immediately. It's a great group of kids not only on the field, but some very good student-athletes, and we're proud that they've chosen to represent Oklahoma State."
Â
Tanya de Souza, GK, Paris, France (Mississippi State/Lycée Henry Darras) – de Souza will spend her final collegiate season in Stillwater after transferring from Mississippi State, where she was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs.
Â
A native of Paris and former player on the French Youth National Team, de Souza played in 40 games at MSU and recorded five shutouts and 179 saves. She is coming off a junior campaign in 2016 in which she racked up a career-high 88 saves in 17 games and recorded a pair of shutouts.
Â
A member of a France team that won the 2014 UEFA Women's Under-19 European Championship, de Souza will be reunited at OSU with former high school and club teammate Laurene Tresfield.
Â
Carmichael on de Souza: "Tanya is a very athletic, talented goalkeeper who will compete for a starting spot immediately. She has great experience playing at the highest level for three years at Mississippi State so transitioning to us shouldn't be a big jump. Watching her development from afar over the last three years, you can certainly see that she's a big-time Division I goalkeeper."
Â
Camy Huddleston, MF, Aledo, Texas (Aledo HS/Dallas Texans ECNL) – Huddleston stars for Dallas Texans ECNL and coach Kiomars Rezaie and helped lead the club to league championships in 2014 and 2015. At Aledo High School, she did not play soccer but was a standout on the basketball court, earning All-District, All-County and All-Region honors.
Â
Others recruiting Huddleston included Baylor, Arkansas, TCU, UCLA, Kansas, USC, San Diego State and Missouri.
Â
Carmichael on Huddleston: "Camy is a very hardworking, athletic midfielder who is good on the ball and in possession. Her hustle, her effort, her willingness to do the intangibles on the field really stood out to us. She's a hard-nosed kid who likes to fight and compete all the time."
Â
Madi May, F, Edmond, Okla. (Deer Creek HS/Oklahoma Football Club) – May has been a part of three Class 5A state championship teams at Deer Creek High School, where she enters her senior season this spring with 37 goals and 29 assists and is a three-time all-district selection.
Â
At the club level, May stars for Jimmy Hampton's Oklahoma Football Club, which she has led to three state titles and a pair of regional semifinals appearances. In 2016, she racked up 18 goals and 15 assists for OFC.
Â
May was also recruited by Colorado State, Arkansas, TCU, Oklahoma, Texas State and Alabama.
Â
Carmichael on May: "Madi is a very good finisher with an eye for goal, and the thing that stood out about her in the recruiting process was her ability to score goals. That's something every coach looks for in a forward so if she's able to continue her scoring from club and high school into college, we'll have a really good forward on our hands."
Â
Taylor Olson, F, San Antonio, Texas (Ronald Reagan HS/Texas Rush ECNL) – A standout for both Texas Rush and Classics Elite at the club level, Olson helped lead the Rush to the ECNL National Finals in 2014 and an ECNL National Playoff appearance in 2016.
Â
At Ronald Reagan High School, Olson tallied 37 goals and 18 assists in 35 games over her first three prep seasons and is well on her way to double digits in both statistical categories as a senior. She has led the team to three district titles and a pair of state semifinals appearances and along the way has earned TopDrawerSoccer.com All-State and All-Region honors.
Â
Named to the 2017 TopDrawerSoccer.com All-America Watch List, Olson is also listed by TDS.com as a three-star recruit and the No. 48 player in the Texas Region.
Â
Also recruited by Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, Olson is not just a star on the pitch as she is one of the top-ranked triple jumpers in the Texas 6A high school ranks.
Â
Carmichael on Olson: "Taylor is a very powerful, quick player who has the pace to get in behind defenses and has scored a ton of goals in high school and club soccer, which catches your eye. She's very direct, likes to run at people and is a very dangerous attacking player."
Â
Kim Rodriguez, MF/D, Porter, Texas (Porter HS/Texas Rush) – Rodriguez has played for Mexico in a pair of FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cups, debuting in 2014 and competing again in 2016, and she was selected for the CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship Best XI in 2016.
Â
Rodriguez also stars at the club level for Texas Rush and coach Don Gemmell, where she is teammates with fellow OSU signee Taylor Olson and helped the club to the ECNL National Finals in 2014.
Â
At Porter High School, Rodriguez enters her senior season just shy of the century mark in both goals and assists as she has recorded 91 goals and 96 assists over a career that has seen her earn TASCO All-State and All-Region accolades.
Â
Rodriguez is listed as a four-star recruit by TopDrawerSoccer.com and considered the No. 6 defender in the 2017 class. TDS.com also lists her as the No. 4 player in the Texas Region.
Â
Carmichael on Rodriguez: "Kim is a wonderful soccer player who plays holding midfielder or possibly center back. Her ability to pick out passes is amazing. She's had a lot of success with the Mexican youth system, and she's just a tremendous player and talent."
Â
Hannah Warner, GK, Owasso, Okla. (Owasso HS/TSC Hurricane ECNL) – An in-state star at Owasso High School, Warner played in 48 games over her first three prep seasons and recorded 37 shutouts to go along with 167 saves, along the way allowing only 12 goals.
Â
A two-time TopDrawerSoccer.com All-American who attended the Nike ID II Camp in 2015, Warner is also a three-time all-district performer at OHS and led the school to district championships in 2015 and 2016 and a Class 6A state runner-up finish last season.
Â
At the club level, Warner stars for TSC Hurricane ECNL and coach Kerry Schubert, which she helped lead to a North American league championship in 2013.
Â
Carmichael on Warner: "Hannah's work ethic is unbelievable — she's a tremendous athlete who's always working to get better. She will come in right away and compete with the goalkeepers we have here for minutes."
Â
Hannah Webb, D, Mansfield, Texas (Mansfield HS/Solar Chelsea ECNL) – A three-time all-district performer at Mansfield High School, Webb entered her senior season with 34 goals and 11 assists.
Â
As a member of Solar Chelsea ECNL, Webb has recorded 12 goals in five seasons while helping led the club to a pair of Texas Conference championships and three Champions League Nationals appearances.
Â
Carmichael on Webb: "Hannah is a very good fullback who is aggressive, hard-nosed, tough and good coming forward. She's good on the ball, likes to join in the attack from the back and link back to middle. She's going to come in and make our back line better immediately."
Â
Morgan Wessling, F/D, Lantana, Texas (Guyer HS/Warriors SC) – At Denton Guyer High School, Wessling is a two-time district MVP who has also earned district newcomer of the year, defensive player of the year and utility player of the year honors. She also competes in track and field and captured a district championship in the 200-yard dash while also breaking a school record for the long jump.
Â
Also recruited by Baylor, TCU and North Texas, Wessling is a star and team captain for the Lake Highlands Warriors Soccer Club and was a member of the Region III ODP Team.
Â
Carmichael on Wessling: "Morgan is a tall, athletic kid who's very good in the air. In women's college soccer, if you have the ability to head the ball you're a threat off set plays, something that maybe we haven't been as good at as we've wanted to be over the years. She's very fast and athletic, and she can play up top or in the back depending on what your need is. Her versatility gives her a chance to play immediately."
