October 19, 2017 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State basketball family is mourning the loss of former letterwinner and graduate assistant coach Dale Peier, who passed away on Oct. 17 in Wichita, Kansas.
Peier, 83, played in 49 games for Mr. Henry Iba from 1953-56, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight as a sophomore in 1954. As a senior, he started 25 games and averaged 7.8 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 46.0 percent from the floor.
He earned a Bachelor's degree in agricultural business and went to work with the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service in Washington, D.C. He returned to Oklahoma State to earn a Master's degree in business education, while serving as a graduate assistant basketball coach.
Peier later pursued graduate work at both Arkansas and Fort Hays State, and served an associate professor in the business department at FHSU for 25 years. He concluded his career by serving as the special assistant to the president of Barton County Community College.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Pond Creek Cemetery in Pond Creek, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Peier Family Scholarship Fund established with the Fort Hays State University Foundation, P.O. Box 1060, Hays, Kansas 67601. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, Oklahoma.
