Cowboys Stay Atop Region for 58th-Straight Week
October 16, 2017 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State men's cross country team reigned supreme in the Midwest Region for the 58th-consecutive week in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association week five regional rankings on Monday.
The streak remains the longest active run in the nation by far. The second-longest streak in the nation was held by Arkansas, which led the South Central Region for the past 37 weeks until being unseeded this week by Texas.
The Cowboys are coming off their victory at the Penn State Open in their regular season finale, topping the field with 45 points thanks to an individual title by senior Hassan Abdi.
The Cowgirls moved up a spot to No. 3 in the Midwest Region after their sixth-place finish in State College, Penn. Senior Molly Sughroue placed ninth overall, running nearly a minute faster in the 6K than her Cowboy Jamboree time.
They remain the second-highest ranked Big 12 squad in the region behind Iowa State at No. 2.
The teams get a short break as they prepare for the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Round Rock, Texas on Oct. 28. The Cowboys are searching for their 10th conference title in a row and the Cowgirls are looking to rebound after a second-place finish a season ago.
