Cowgirls Stay Unbeaten With 67-53 win over Santa Clara

LAS VEGAS – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team kept its unbeaten record in tact on Monday night with a 67-53 win over Santa Clara in the first round of the Play4Kay Shootout inside T-Mobile Arena.
With the win, OSU improved to 9-0, while the Broncos fell to 4-5.
The Cowgirls used an efficient offensive first half en route to a 39-23 lead. Powered by the inside presence of juniors Mandy Coleman and Kaylee Jensen, OSU shot 53 percent to build its advantage. Through the first 20 minutes, the duo combined for 23 points and eight rebounds. Coleman poured in 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Jensen added 11 points and a trey of her own.
OSU got out of the gate quickly, scoring the game's first seven points before building a double-digit lead at 13-3 with four minutes to go in the quarter. The Cowgirls saw their lead swell to 18 for the first time midway through the second period on a layup by Jensen before eventually taking their 16-point lead into the halftime locker room.
With three minutes to go in the third, OSU took its biggest lead at 49-27 before Santa Clara began to chip away at the margin. The Broncos closed the period on a 7-2 run before getting three consecutive 3-pointers from Emily Wolph to trim the lead back to single digits at 53-45 with 5:48 to go.
Coleman halted the run with a turnaround jumper in the lane before layups from Jensen and sophomore Karli Wheeler pushed the lead back to 12 with two minutes remaining. Jensen added two more layups in the game's final minute and a half to seal the win.
Jensen finished with 21 points and nine boards, while Coleman logged a double-double with her 16 points and 13 rebounds.
The Cowgirls will now take on Long Beach State tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. (CST) with a spot in the title game on the line.
