Smith, Gajewski “Weigh In” for Friday’s Mat vs. Bat Showdown
October 27, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball, Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – With the highly-anticipated "Rumble in the Rowdy" between Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith and Cowgirl softball coach Kenny Gajewski at Friday night's Homecoming and Hoops drawing closer, the two opponents held a "weigh-in" Wednesday morning at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory hosted by Robert Allen and aired live on Triple Play Sports Radio.
The two head coaches previewed the matchup at the weigh-in, discussing how they're preparing for the big night; however, the only thing standing on the scale Wednesday morning was fudge. Being that the two foes will wrestle no matter their weight, Smith and Gajewski participated in a different kind of weigh-in.
The coaches both took part in Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's "Fudge for our Troops" campaign that sends a pound of fudge to U.S. troops overseas for every pound of fudge purchased in the store. Smith's fudge weighed in at exactly a pound, while Gajewski's tipped the scale at one pound and 35 ounces.
The challenge originated from a deal Gajewski made with the OSU softball team last year that if the Cowgirls got hit by 50 pitches over the course of last season, he would match up with the six-time World Champion Smith on the mat.
Watch the full video above to see the "weigh-in" and listen to the coaches' comments on the big match.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Friday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena for Homecoming and Hoops, and the festivities are set to begin at 9 p.m. Admission is free, although it is a first-come, first-serve event.
Tickets for both wrestling and softball are available now and can be purchased at okstate.com/tickets or by calling 877-ALL-4-OSU.
