Baylor Postgame Notes
January 27, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Jawun Evans entered the game needing seven assists to reach 100 on the season. The freshman had that by halftime. Evans posted seven first-half assists and finished with 10 assists to bring his season total to 103, which moved him from fifth to third on the OSU freshman assist charts.
- Evans posted nine assists at Baylor earlier in the month and he tallied 10 tonight. The 10 assist night for Evans is the third best performance ever by an OSU freshman.
- Evans now has 11 games with at least five assists, including six of the last seven games.
- Chris Olivier went to work on the low block in the second half. The senior had four first-half points, but and finished with 17 points.
- Leyton Hammonds also reached double-figures on the night with 12 points.
- Joe Burton hit a 3-pointer with just under four minutes remaining to erase what was a six point Baylor lead and give OSU a 61-60 lead.
- OSU shot 54.2 percent from the floor in the first half, which is the squad's second best first-half outing of the season. Only OSU's 64.3 percent shooting effort in the first half against Long Beach State in Charleston, S.C., was better.
- A Jeffrey Carroll runner with 13:48 on the clock helped the Cowboys surge out to a 17-7 lead. Another 6-0 run minutes later had OSU ahead 23-11 after a Jawun Evans floater. That 12-point lead would turn out to be the largest lead of the game for either team.
- The Cowboys just missed out on taking down a ranked opponent in back-to-back home games for the first time since 2009-10. That year, the Cowboys beat No. 22 Baylor on Feb. 20 and No. 1 Kansas on Feb. 27.
- The Cowboys swept the season series with Baylor last season, and the Bears returned the favor in 2015-16. Baylor downed the Cowboys 79-62 on Jan. 5 in Waco.
- Baylor's win in Gallagher-Iba Arena is just Baylor's third in the last 13 trips. Overall, OSU leads the series in Stillwater, 26-6.
- Oklahoma State still leads the overall series 54-24.
- Tonight's game was played 15 years to the date of the tragedy in which Oklahoma State lost 10 members of its basketball family in an airplane crash. OSU marks each anniversary with a special Remember The Ten night.
- To honor the memories of those lost 15 years ago, Oklahoma State wore special tribute jerseys for Wednesday's Remember The Ten night. The jerseys feature "Cowboys" in script lettering across the front, and are similar to those worn in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
- The Cowboys started Jawun Evans, Jeff Newberry, Leyton Hammonds, Jeffrey Carroll and Mitchell Solomon for the sixth straight game - the most of any starting lineup combination this season.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 504 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
- The Cowboys have blocked at least one shot in every game this season.
