Kansas State Postgame Quotes

Head coach Travis Ford
On being surprised by K-States performance...
"Both teams were teams that needed wins no doubt. We both came in on two different scenarios, they (K-State) came in off a double overtime loss, and we came in off a big win. The question was who was going to respond, and we did not respond. Give them all the credit. They got us on our heels early and our guys just did not have a whole lot of fight for some reason.
On lack of defensive communication…
"We lead the league in almost every defensive category after six games, we are usually very good defensively, but tonight Kansas State did a great job of attacking our defense"
On K-State's Kamau Stokes…
"He is quick. He is very good at playing North-South. He can shoot especially when he gets hot. Their freshman guards can score in a variety of ways. They can drive and hurt you from the outside. He is very efficient for a freshman"
Guard Jeffrey Newberry
On breaking down in transition defense…
"Just communication. You come on the road in a tough environment and you have to communicate to keep their team low in transition points. They got out on a run and it is hard to come back when you are on the road and do not communicate and you did not come out the way you were supposed to. That is what happened. We got down early, did not limit their transition and second chance points, and that is how we found ourselves where we were."
On K-State guard Kamau Stokes…
"He is new to the league, so this is my first year knowing him, but what I have seen from scouting reports is that the kid can definitely play. He comes off screens and hitting shots as a freshman, doing that type of stuff will lead to a bright future and is helping his team get back to where they were. Hats off to him."
Guard Tyree Griffin
On the lack of energy coming in…
"We did not come out with the energy we were supposed to come out with. They punched us in the mouth first and I give all the credit to K-State. They deserved the win."
On K-State's strong defense…
"They just played really good defense tonight. They helped each other. They capitalize of all our turnovers that led to a lot of points in transition. They just played well."
