Cowboy Tennis Welcomes Two Newcomers
August 10, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis coach Jay Udwadia and the Cowboy Tennis squad announced on Monday two newcomers for the 2015-16 season so far.
Joining the Pokes in the fall as a sophomore is Mississippi State transfer Julian Cash. Originally from Great Britain, he has collected a lot of international experience, climbing as high as a No. 68 ranking as an ITA Junior. He also reached a No. 1226 singles ranking and No. 1131 doubles ranking from the ATP before starting his collegiate career.
During the 2014-15 season, Cash competed as a Mississippi State Bulldog, picking up 14 singles wins and 23 doubles wins. He qualified for the doubles draw at the 2015 NCAA Championships and eventually went on to earn doubles All-America honors. He and his partner finished the season ranked No. 14 in doubles and were ranked as high as No. 6 during the season.
"Julian has a year of great college tennis experience under his belt, which will help him transition nicely," Udwadia said. "He has the tools and the big game to play at a very high level. We look forward to developing Julian and making him into a great Cowboy player over the next three years."
Coming to Stillwater in January is one of the top junior players from Colombia, Mateo Ruiz Naranjo. Currently ranked at No. 1248 in the ATP singles poll and No. 1368 in the ATP doubles poll, he had a competitive summer, notching big wins over the No. 403 and No. 619 singles players in the ATP.
"We're excited to be bringing in Mateo, who will be an excellent addition to our team as a great person and as a talented tennis player," Udwadia said. "He's a very hard worker who will keep on improving and will fit in great with our team culture."
