STILLWATER, Okla. ---- Leyton Hammonds scored a career-high 22 points as the Cowboys defeated Longwood 73-55 Tuesday night at
Gallagher-Iba Arena for the 1,600th win in program history.
Hammonds finished shooting four-of-six from the field, including three-of-six from behind the arc, and also brought down five rebounds. Â
After an arena-wide power outage that lasted 43 minutes with 11:09 remaining, the Cowboys came back onto the court with an 18-6 run to take a 65-43 lead.
Oklahoma State couldn't have asked for a much better start to the first half. The Cowboys made four of their first five shots from behind the arc to jump out to a quick 15-0 lead.
As good as the they were offensively, the Cowboys started as strong on the defensive end, holding Longwood to one-of-seven shooting to start and didn't allow the Lancers to score until the 15:28 mark.
The Cowboys' hot start continued as they eventually led the Lancers 22-3, and finished the half with six players in the scoring column.
Oklahoma State held a 37-25 lead at halftime, thanks in part to its bench that outscored the Longwood bench 13-2 in the half. The bench finished the game outscoring Longwood's bench 33-4.
The Cowboys spread the scoring around throughout the night, and finished with 11 players in the scoring column.
Oklahoma State also took advantage of second-chance scoring, outscoring Longwood 17-5 in that category.
Leron Fisher led the way for Longwood, as he finished with 18 points and five rebounds.
Alongside Hammonds, Joe Burton also finished with double digits in scoring with 13 points. Jeffrey Carroll finished with nine points, and Tavarius Shine finished with five points and brought down five rebounds.Â
